F2P Game News: Frogster Posted Account Security Q&A

Recently Frogster is under attack by a disgruntled user named “Augustus87” who claimed to have holded over 3.5 million account data for Runes of Magic. Augustus87 accused Frogster of failing to solve the security problems and also demanded a set of requests featuring forum moderation, better transparency and security.

Augustus87 posted a thread to tell Frogster the requests such as no closed and deleted threads, better treatment of Frogster employees worldwide, more transparency to the customers, better security for the game clients and personal infomation, as well as no spy on the employees. Otherwise, the information about the account data will be released to the public, and the Runes of Magic servers will be shut down.

Although Frogster assured the data information Augustus87 got is outdated data from 2007 before the launch of Runes of Magic, the publisher has posted a latest Q&A for account security to tell the players about the account protection.

• Have more than 2000 accounts been affected?

We have thoroughly investigated the data and ascertained that only 2000 sets of log-in data have been posted, originating from 2007. This data comes from accounts created before the launch of Runes of Magic. The number of Runes of Magic accounts that have been affected has only run into double digits. In these cases the registered users had added Runes of Magic to their old account with Frogster or the Yusho account system. All the accounts which were compromised by the posts were immediately blocked by us, and we informed the owners of the accounts by email.

Aside from the data already published, we cannot be 100% certain exactly how much data the attacker has in his or her possession. But rest assured, we are doing all we can to get to the bottom of the situation. Unfortunately, since a criminal investigation is currently underway we cannot give you any more information on the matter for the time being.
