I was a big fan of Digimon. Although Digimon is sometimes considered a spinoff of Pokemon, it is destined for the international success comprehensively including animations, toys, as well as video games. Fans of all ages are addicted to the virtual pets with the capability to train them, evolve them, look after them and battle against others.
Based on the adventure of popular Digimon Franchise, Digimon Battle is a free-to-play turn-based MMORPG developed by Digitalic and published by WeMade. The game is the first MMORPG that restores the contents from the Digimon animation season three, Digimon Tamers. Leading the trend with a brand new pet system in MMOs, Digimon Battle attracts both Digimon fans and other players with such features like the personalized characters, various Digimon, unique Digivolution system, as well as the challenging battle zone.
Tamers are the leading role in Digimon Battle, which can be chosen from 4 different avatars revolving mainly around the animation plot: Takato Matsuki, Henry Wong, Rika Nonaka, and a new tamer Jeri Katou. Each tamer has his or her own personality. In Digimon Battle, players control the role of tamers and train Digimon to become their powerful companions in the digital world. In addition, different titles added to tamers will signify their professional qualification according to the current level, for example, Beginner Tamer, Golden Tamer, Robust Tamer and more. Unlike receiving the level up rewards, players can develop their personal characters and pursue the most professional Digimon tamers in the game.
It begins with tamers choosing their very own Digimon among a choice of three starter Digimon: Gigimon, Gummymon or Viximon. All Digimon have three types of attributes: Virus, Vaccine and Data, each type having different traits and obtaining different stats when leveling up. What’s more, one type defeats another in a way similar to the rock-paper-scissors game. Therefore, tamers need to consider the battle companion when they are about to challenge their rivals.
The Digivolution system is the soul system in Digimon Battle, which not only increases Digimon’s powers but also enables them to transform into further stages of evolution. Each Digimon will digivolve into their next forms in the certain level, starting with In-training stage and then Rookie (level 11), Champion (level 21), Ultimate (level 31) and Mega (level 41) in that order. In order to keep training Digimon, tamers are required to jump into the Digital World for more adventures and experience.
By attending various battles, Digimon level up with increasing EXP and receive 2 stat points along with 1 skill point per level. Tamers can distribute the points on Strength, Dexterity, Constitution and Intelligence according to their preference. Until Digimon reach level 6, they automatically learn skills and will improve their abilities in the further stage. In the future adventure, tamers are allowed to catch the captured Digimon. During a battle, tamers have three times to capture a Digimon by simply selecting the free capture option or using a purchased catching net for a 100% chance. The captured Digimon won’t join in the battles until the partner Digimon recalls them.
Card system is another one of the interesting features in Digimon Battle. Instead of using normal skills, tamers can equip various cards to help Digimon enhance their battle abilities. There are many types of cards, dividing mainly into offensive, defensive and recovery cards. All the cards should be put into the card slot beforehand so Digimon can use card slash skills in battles. If both sides are almost on a par with each other, the cards may become one of the main factors to win the victory over the rivals or even they may bring about an important turnabout for the underdog.
The traditional turn-based combats are always boring and dull in the most MMOs, because players have to wait for the result in turn. It means both sides have the same opportunities till the end in this mode. Hence, the combats have more leisure but less fun. When players are waiting for a battle without the unpredictable elements, sometimes they are just for killing the time. Although Digimon Battle is also a turn-based game, the combats are more exciting and challenging with the TP system. Only when the TP bar is full can tamers deliver an attack on the rivals. The speed of the action time depends on each Digimon stats. As a result, the turn-based combats are filled with uncertainty of the action frequency and attack strategy per round. Actually, the combat system tests the tamers’ reaction and tactics in the game. If tamers are familiar with the card system, Digivolution system and the operations in one battle, they will have the feeling which can be experienced in those real-time MMOs.
For PvP gameplay, tamers can switch to Battle Zone to engage in 1vs1 individual PvP fighting up to 5vs5 team match in either Free Battle mode or Arena Mode. Tamers can get points as a reward which can be used to buy PvP gear in the in-game item shop. Currently, 5 Digimon can be controlled at a time in the team. Since Digimon have their own advantages and tamers are not allowed to change the partner Digimon in the waiting room, it is important to decide which Digimon to attend the PvP battle.
Digimon Battle is a simple game filled with exciting and interesting elements. If you want to become a great tamer or enjoy the adventure life in the Digimon world, come to the online MMORPG with your friends in Digimon Battle.
