If you are a fan of the popular Final Fantasy series, you must be familiar with the fictional character, Chocobo. Chocobo’s Crystal Tower, a pet simulation game with RPG elements starring the adorable Chocobo character as well, is Square Enix’s first title for Facebook. In the ranch, players take care of the Chocobos with different colors and stats. Tasked with the aim of keeping the kingdom safe, players send stronger Chocobos to the adventures in Crystal Towers, the cursed places full of monsters and treasures.
In the beginning, players are tested if they have the qualifications to be an official Chocobo breeder. As a tutorial, the royal administrator gives players a royal beginner’s egg which has a short life cycle. According to the newbie quests such as hatching the egg, feeding the birds, and visiting the shop, players are easy to get started with the game.
Raising
There are a set of RPG features which are really player-friendly in Chocobo’s Crystal Tower. Firstly, Players can edit their ranch name as well as Chocobos’ names if they don’t like the original. Chocobos need food and tender care to grow up. If they are fed regularly, they will grow up quickly. Rumor has it that each color of 
Chocobos likes the same color of food. Once a Chocobo reaches its maturity, players have to release them back to nature.
From the item shop, players can purchase foods to feed their Chocobos and equipments to enhance the Chocobos’ abilities. What’s more, the special item beside the shopkeeper is for sale every day. Additionally, the handbook records the latest information about the breeding and adventure, including achievements, items and enemies. The camera icon allows players to take pictures and send them to the Facebook photo album. I like the part of decoration. In the game, players are able to manage their ranch. The item shop provides with a plenty of cute décors which can be changed the ordinary ranch into a nice home for Chocobos.
Breeding
It is very important to breed Chocobos. Besides the rare chance to purchase from the shop, it is the only way to get new eggs in the game. There are two ways to breed the birds: random breeding and friend breeding. On one hand, players are able to select a Chocobo to produce a new egg with someone else. It takes an hour from random breeding. When the breeding finishes, both parties will get an egg. On the other hand, players send a breeding quest to a friend, which may takes more time ranging from 6 to 24 hours. The next generation of Chocobos will inherit higher stats from their parents.
Tower Adventures
Chocobos has four stats: strength, agility, intelligence and mind. Players enhance their Chocobos either by feeding them with something delicious or equipping them with the outfits. Now is the time to send Chocobos to the adventures. At the moment, only one map is available to explore the crystal towers with different difficulties. In the tower, Chocobos will find monsters, traps, and treasures.
Sometimes, players have the chance to win the special items not available in the item shop from the tower adventures. Since the towers have different difficulties, players need to explore them step by step. After leveling up the ascender rank, the higher difficulty is open to players. The ascender rank is apart from the breeder rank, which can only be increased from the adventures.
Interaction
When it comes to social features, the game provides mail box to connect with friends, guest book to show off the friendship, and the function to invite new friends. As a social game, players are able to look after others’ Chocobos when visiting others’ ranches. By helping others, it is possible to get breeder experience and Lucky Features.
If players want to raise more Chocobos at the same time, they need to use Lucky Features to unlock the bird slot and egg box. In the meantime, players can put the Lucky Features onto Chocobos’ heads to enhance their lucky ability. The higher the lucky point, the more the chance to win rewards in the tower.
